How Your Garage Door Can Be a Little Smarter

Blog

It seems like the smart home revolution is here. You can purchase an integrated voice-accessed home assistant (very much like how the crew of the Starship Enterprise used to ask their central computer questions on Star Trek). You can control most aspects of your home's climate and security with a smartphone app provided that you have purchased the necessary system.

Unsurprisingly, even your garage can be given a smart update. Most of the smart options for your garage essentially supplement your existing garage door opener, so you don't need to replace it. These smart garage systems are rather straightforward to install and any company that handles garage door repairs can do it for you. So if you've considered smartening up your garage door, it's time to look at what these systems can be capable of.

Truly Automatic Opening

Of course, the capability of such a smart system will depend on how much you're willing to spend, but even the most basic of systems can have some useful abilities. Perhaps the most useful of these abilities is that you no longer have to bother opening the door manually. As your vehicle approaches the door, a transmitter located in the vehicle-based component of the system sends a signal via Bluetooth. The garage door then automatically opens after receiving this proximity signal. A class 1 Bluetooth transmission has a range of up to 100 metres, but this can be configured to any distance within this 100 metres if you would prefer your door to only open when your vehicle is directly outside.

Opening Notification

Have you ever worried that your garage door will simply pop open after you've driven away? It's a common fear. Perhaps an object has entered the field of your door's photo eyes (the sensors located at the base of the door). A smart garage door system can actually notify you if this happens. This notification also works if your garage door is forced open.

Remote Access

And then there are more advanced aspects of these systems, which allow you to remotely open your garage door via your smartphone. This means you can grant access to houseguests, tradespeople, or whomever might need to go inside when you're away. It's also handy if someone in your family is locked out.

Before you rush out to get a smart garage door system, please ensure that you check that your intended system is compatible with your existing automatic garage door opener. These systems are just a great way to make modern life a little more convenient (and safer).

Open Chat: Making A Statement With Garage Doors

Welcome all. I am a builder by trade and I specialise in home renovations. The garage seems to be one of the most popular rooms for renovation as people seek to incorporate new uses such as a billiards room or party area. I reorganise storage space and brighten the walls and floors. Of course, all this costs thousands of dollars, yet many clients insist on keeping their old garage door. I find this very frustrating because the right door can change the whole appearance of a home and provide so much more functionality for the garage space. After speaking to clients, I realise that many people just don't know the options available. Whether you are renovating or building a new home, my blog may be able to help you choose a garage door that makes a statement and suits your needs. I hope you like browsing these pages. Thank you.
